FieldBus Systems
January 31, 2017 2:19 pmFieldBus systems for factory automation
If you were designing a factory control system, you would previously have used multiple PLCs connected on point-to-point connections to junction boxes and marshalling racks to attach the sensors and actuators, often over long cable runs.
FieldBus is a modern communications system which uses digital signals to connect directly to the sensors and actuators, meaning less wiring and connector complexity, and a bidirectional interface, allowing devices to feedback to the control system in real-time.
Many FieldBus protocols are supported, each an industry standard, such as Profibus, Sercos III and EtherCAT.
